Shopping miles
Berlin is not only a cultural metropolis, but also a shopping paradise par excellence. From Monday to Saturday - occasionally also on Sundays and public holidays - Berlin's shops offer visitors the opportunity to make original discoveries that cannot be found anywhere else. In addition to the well-known shopping streets around the Kurfürstendamm, Friedrichstrasse, Potsdamer Platz and Leipziger Platz are other numerous interesting shops and exclusive consumer temples that are worth a visit.
Christmas markets have a long tradition in Berlin. As early as the 16th century, traders were selling honey cakes and “syrup pastries” on Petriplatz for a few pennies.
And so, from the end of November, the metropolis shows itself today in all its wintry diversity: illuminated boulevards and squares as well as pre-Christmas lights not only illuminate the way home for night owls, but also make the shopping spree a joyful experience. Visitors can choose between around 60 Christmas markets. Some consist of just a few festively lit stalls around a square, while others are so big that an afternoon is hardly enough.
Collectors of oddballs and lovers of old things will also find what they are looking for in the capital: almost every Berlin neighborhood has - in addition to its own weekly market - also a flea market where you can find one or the other good bargain.
